Middle schoolers with cell phones:
Freshmen phone habits are horrible. Sophomores’ too. So I could have said “high schoolers with cell phones” rather than “middle schoolers with cell phones”. But that would have been a mistake. The fact is that high schoolers are phone junkies the day they begin 9th grade. Girls melting text messages to shoot up. Boys snorting lines of cell phone video games.
So the addictions begin earlier. Parents give their eleven-year-olds phones and unlimited plans on the first day of 6th grade. “Call me if there’s a school shooting, honey.”
What do middle schoolers actually do with their phones? They walk, side by side, texting each other instead of talking. Most texts are fewer than three words long. Often misspelled.
End of rant.
